Richard K. Hynes was born at the old Goddard Hospital in downtown Brockton. His father, Robert Hynes, joined Barbour Welting Company after graduating from Brockton High School. Richard attended all Brockton schools, graduating from Brockton High School. At 16, he began working at Barbour after school and during vacations, continuing through college. He attended Boston University, earning a BA in Biology, and began graduate studies at Northeastern University.
Robert Hynes and Anthony Matteoli purchased the nearly bankrupt Barbour Welting Co. Richard left his education to join the company full-time, aiming to restore its solvency and diversify into non-footwear markets within the plastics industry. He was appointed President of the Company by his father, who passed away in 1996. Their diversification into plastic profile extrusion was highly successful, resulting in a strong company with a solid balance sheet.
In community activities, Richard joined the Brockton Rotary Club and served on its board for numerous terms. He was elected to the board of directors of the Brockton-based Community Bank and became Chairman of the Board. The bank was acquired by Eastern Bank. He served on the board of directors of the Old Colony YMCA and was elected to the board of the Metro South Chamber of Commerce, eventually serving as Chairman.
Richard married Cynthia Stone, and they had one child, Andrew Hynes, who tragically passed away. After retiring from his business, Richard and his wife frequently travel between their homes in East Bridgewater, West Dennis Cape Cod, and Naples, Florida, and vacation in other parts of the world.
His hobbies include investing in stocks, woodworking, photography, reading, and exercising. Richard is passionate about making a difference in the community, dedicating significant time and effort to various community organizations and initiatives. He has been instrumental in creating positive change and helping those in need. His dedication and enthusiasm have had a lasting impact on the community.
Kimberly Welch is the Director of Enterprise Applications at Charles River Associates, where she oversees the implementation of technology solutions to drive operational efficiency and enhance business processes. Garblah Page was born and raised in Monrovia, Liberia. He moved to the United States in July 2000 to pursue university studies. Garblah graduated from Texas Southern University with a BA in Management and earned a Graduate Certificate in Internet Marketing from Full Sail University. He also holds an MBA with a focus on Healthcare Management from Southern New Hampshire University.
Garblah started his entrepreneurial journey at fourteen in Monrovia, Liberia. This early experience led him to expand his business interests and develop expertise in providing quality, timely service. He is passionate about helping others and volunteers with various non-profits and community organizations, often taking on leadership roles in his community and church.

Amy MacMannis-Freeland recently retired from a 20+ year career as an Academic Advisor at Bridgewater State University to become an independent contractor. Her goal is to help
students, particularly first-generation students, acquire the information and resources they need to overcome challenges. Over the years, she has developed strengths in interpersonal and public communications, including researching, writing, interviewing, and creating. One of her proudest achievements is co-producing the Voices Compilation, a series of videos highlighting the experiences and challenges of undergraduate students whose voices typically go unheard. These videos and their accompanying Action Guide have been disseminated at local and national conferences, including ACA, NACADA, and TRIO.
During her higher education career, Amy served on the Veteran’s Advisor committee, the Pride Committee for GLBTQ+ students, and as co-chair for the Academic Achievement Center Racial Justice Group. She also dedicated her time to social causes outside of the school setting, including No First Time, an addiction prevention program. One of her independent projects, a video for parents and founders, has been featured at presentations throughout New England and can be viewed here: No First Time. Her interests are varied and include assisting in saving a local skating rink and an abandoned historic farm, presenting on the importance of protecting ponds and water supplies from contamination and invasive species, and creating and marketing cultural events for the community such as a folk concert and Latin dance night. Most recently, she spent the summer of 2024 volunteering for the Summer Stage Theater Camp.
For enjoyment, Amy loves to walk, write, participate in Zumba and pottery classes, play with her grand kids, travel to Ireland, Maine, and Cape Cod, and spend time with family and friends. She has also co-authored a children’s book with her mother, Mary Parker, titled “Nobody Likes a Tattle Tale!” and is working on a play titled “From Studio to Spotlight: The Mamie LaConga Story.” Amy MacMannis-Freeland continues to contribute to her community and looks forward to new projects and opportunities to give back.

She was the Women’s Wing Head of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas.
Currently, Ms. Dennis works as an Immunohematology Supervisor at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Her recent appointment to the Lynn Cultural Council highlights her commitment to promoting excellence, inclusion, education, and diversity in the arts, humanities, and sciences, fostering a rich cultural life in her community.

JoAnne Woods Young, the best-selling author of “Stress Less for Student Success,” is a speaker, counselor, and coach who loves people and is dedicated to giving back to the community through volunteer work with nonprofit organizations. A former high school counselor and college admissions representative, JoAnne is acutely aware of the stresses facing students today. For the past 10 years, she has traveled extensively, speaking to high school and college students about best practices for managing stress and inspiring them to follow their dreams.

Sesay T. Johnson, a native Liberian who migrated to the United States due to the Liberian Civil War, has dedicated his life to making a difference in his homeland and beyond. Recognizing the tremendous burdens placed on Liberia’s children after the civil war, Sesay felt a sense of obligation to give back to his native country. Liberia suffers from crippling infrastructure and inadequate education. His love for children inspired him to create the Grow Hope Foundation, a nonprofit public foundation that promotes children’s education.
After implementing several successful projects in Liberia, Sesay expanded the foundation to develop educational programs benefiting students in Brockton, Massachusetts. These programs provide elementary students with the opportunity to learn about science and technology through an After-School Coding and Mentorship Program. Through individual donors, support from local businesses, and revenue generated at annual fundraisers, Grow Hope Foundation has begun to transform a generation of children.

Dr. O’Brien is passionate about inspiring students and supporting families. Driven by a commitment to equitable education, she combines strategic vision with hands-on leadership to build capacity in educators, advance academic achievement, and foster inclusive, trauma-sensitive school environments where all students can thrive.
Euphemia William Jones, a dedicated Board Member of the GrowHope Foundation since 2016, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role. She earned a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education and Teaching, followed by a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership. With over two decades’ experience in the Early Education and Care profession, Ms. Jones is a passionate advocate for children’s education. She is the proprietor of a private childcare center in Brockton, Massachusetts, demonstrating her commitment to quality early education.
Ms. Jones is affiliated with several esteemed organization, including the Massachusetts Early Childhood Educators Union, School on Wheels, and the NaƟonal Association for the Education of Young Children. Her past roles include serving on the Academic and Scholarship Committee of her alma mater, the B.W. Harris Alumni Association USA, and as a member of the Academic Committee for the Center for Sustainable Development in Africa. These experiences underscore her dedication to community service and educational advancement.
Darren Duarte is a multiple Emmy Award-winning journalist with several nominations in the categories of television reporting, producing, and hosƟng. He has received two national awards for Best Documentary and the presƟgious “Gold World Medal” from the International New York World Festival for broadcasting excellence.
With over twenty years of experience in television news, Darren has reported for network affiliates across the country as well as on national news outlets such as CBS, The Weather Channel, CNN, BET, NBC, and PBS.
Darren previously served as the Director of Public Affairs for the Massachusetts Department of Correction and spent seven years as the Director of Communications for the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America, a national mortgage company and advocacy organization based in Boston. In this role, he uƟlized his extensive broadcast media experience to help the company navigate the nation’s financial and mortgage crisis.
A graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C., Darren began his professional career as a congressional staff member on Capitol Hill. He later served as the Chief of Staff for Mayor Bill Carpenter in Brockton, MA. Currently, Darren is the Director of Communications and Outreach for the Brockton Police Department. Beyond his professional achievements, Darren is committed to giving back to the community, uƟlizing his skills and experience to support local initiatives and advocating for positive change.
Betty Rada has been an acƟve board member of GrowHope since April 2016. A Brockton resident for over 30 years, she has been deeply involved in the community for several years. Mrs. Rada has dedicated 16 years to the federal government, showcasing her commitment to public service. Ms. Rada’s current membership affiliations include the New England Social Security Management
Association, Bridgewater Rotary Club, Brockton Parade Community, Brockton Garden Club, and Brockton Parent’s Magazine. As a Rotarian, she is committed to service and community development, consistently demonstrating her dedication to making a positive impact.
In addition to her professional and community engagements, Ms. Rada is a loving mother of three boys. Her dedication to her family and community reflects her strong values and unwavering commitment to improving others’ lives.
